MINIMUM
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF
THE NEW LONDON FIRE DEPARTMENT
•
Fire hydrants shall remain free and unobstructed at all times.
Any portion of a vendor’s display found to be impinging
upon a fire hydrant shall be immediately removed.
•
Fire lanes shall remain free and unobstructed at all times. Canopies,
tents, booths, displays and the like shall not extend into
any portion of fire lanes. Any portion of a vendor’s
display found to be impinging upon a fire lane shall be immediately
removed.
•
All combustible debris shall be properly disposed of on a regular
basis so as to eliminate any accumulation around booths,
displays and where applicable, around propane containers,
generators or electrical equipment. Combustible decking shall
be prohibited.
•
Vendors shall provide the Waterfront Events Committee with their
electrical requirements in advance of setup. Vendors shall
not exceed the electrical demand provided in their setup
area.
•
Vendors utilizing propane or any other compressed gas shall insure
all containers remain safely secured at all times and at
least 5 feet from heat sources.
•
Safety plugs, quick connect fittings or covers shall be in place
on all pressure cylinders that are not in use.
•
All connections associated with delivering a compressed gas to
the location of use or equipment of use shall be tested for
leaks utilizing a soap solution. Any connections found to
be leaking shall be taken out of service.
•
All flammable and combustible liquid shall be kept in approved
containers and shall be stored in a cool place, away from
heat sources.
•
Each vendor shall provide at least one five-pound ABC rated fire
extinguisher. Each fire extinguisher shall have a tag attached,
indicating a recent inspection. Deep fat fryers installations
shall have a Type “K” portable fire extinguisher.
All extinguishers shall have inspection tags indicating that
they have been serviced within the year.
•
All vendors are subject to inspection at any time by a representative
of the New London Fire Department.
•
The use of wood, charcoal or other solid fuel material is prohibited.
•
Tent installations and operations shall comply with the Connecticut
Tent and Portable Shelter Code. Convection ovens under tents
shall not be vented under the tent.
•
Fueling of golf carts and other vehicles shall be done only at
a location approved by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
